'Zowel de PTSS als de artrose zie je niet aan mij' (UWV Facebook)

UWV Facebook – ‘You can’t tell my PTSD nor osteoarthritis from the outside. As a result, I was often overburdened, and I couldn’t set my limits properly. I often dropped out and kept changing jobs.’ The municipality got Kim in touch with web design  company Ictoria. She now works there as a permanent employee. ‘I feel right at home here.’

‘Since the age of 18, I’ve had osteoarthritis in my knees, ankles, and shoulders, and therefore cannot cope with as much physically. I’ve also got PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) due to an abusive relationship. This makes me less capable of coping with work pressure, or psychological pressure.

In 2003, I got the opportunity to train as an administrative assistant. That seemed like a nice profession and also less physically demanding. But the company I came to work for excessively overburdened me, and there was no understanding for my limitations. It wasn’t long before I suffered a burn-out, and subsequently ended up on sickness benefit.’

The municipality suggested engaging in talks with Nadia, owner of the company Ictoria. There, people with impairments can develop themselves, and move on to other companies. ‘The first interview was so nice right away! Nadia was the first to ask me in all these years: ‘What do you want?’.

After a trial placement, I entered permanent employment and do administrative work, among other things. What makes Ictoria such a nice place to work is that there is understanding. The work culture here makes it easy to state your limits. That is so valuable to me.
